About Me

I live in Cardiff with my husband and 2 daughters Isabel (aged 12) and Daisy (aged 4).

I have been enjoying running fun music classes under the Music with Mummy Scheme for the last four year in the Roath, Roath Park and Cyncoed areas of cardiff. During this time I have had over 700 babies, toddlers and children coming to classes, parties and other events.

Before Music with Mummy, I was a Librarian and was involved with creating, organising, promoting and presenting fun activities for babies and children. These included Rhyme-time, Story-time Messy Play and larger events to promote reading and celebrate festivals.

When I had my second daughter, Daisy I spent alot of time singing to her (as I had with Isabel) and she loved it. It was a lovely way of bonding with her and it was wonderful to be able to stop her crying with a song (even if I did end up singing for ages sometimes as she didn't want me to stop!) The whole family became involved and we came up with a special songs for daily activities such as waking up, nappy changing and bath time. These helped us communicate with her as recognised the particular "theme tune" from very early on and was reassured by this. We had a very jolly "Good Morning" song which we sang loudly whilst we opened the curtains each morning and this definately helped with what I called "night and day training". Soon my husband joked that Daisy would grow up thinking she was in a musical!

When Daisy was 5 months old I found out about Music with Mummy, I decided to look into starting my own classes. I took Daisy to one of Deb Denny’s Joly Babies classes in Bristol and we both loved it so much that I decided it was what I wanted to do immediately. img_5004_1.jpg

I love running classes and seeing the enjoyment which the babies and children experience with their parents or carers. It is wonderful to look around me and see lots of smiles, clapping, bouncing and laughing. As a parent I know how much time is spent rushing around and how demanding life can be and how valuable even a half an hour a week can be.

I come from a musical family - my father is a Jazz Trombonist (and also plays piano, guitar and Double Bass) and my mother plays Piano and enjoys singing, so I grew up in a musical environment. As a child/teenager I played the Cello (to Grade 6) and sang in choirs - this is something I am still hoping to take up again when I find the time. I feel I was lucky to grow up in a musical environment I think everyone should be able to enjoy music in their own way, regardless of ability.
