Singing at home

There is no reason to stop enjoying singing and music when the class finishes. Music and singing can enhance parenting and improve family life on a daily basis in many ways:

  • Evan teddy laughingEstablishing a Routine - songs and/or music work well as part of a baby’s everyday activities and to help introduce a routine. From a very young age babies recognize bath-time, eating-time, waking-up-time and (most importantly) bedtime, through a song for each activity. It makes these everyday activities more fun too.
  • Staying Positive - caring for a baby is tiring and can often be overwhelming, frustrating, lonely and tedious. Singing with your baby can help improve your own mood especially when you get a warm response from your baby.
  • Communication - Singing is a good way of communicating with your baby when you are too tired to think of anything to say!
  • Involving Siblings - Singing and music is a good way to include older siblings with you and your baby. They feel involved and it will help them develop a relationship with the baby.
  • Involving The Whole Family - singing or saying rhymes is a great way to involve partners, grandparents and other family members. Nursery Rhymes cross through generational barriers and are a good way to enjoy time with your baby together.
  • Distraction Tactic - a song is a great way to distract your baby from having a wobbly.
  • Providing Reassurance - a familiar song can help to comfort your baby when they feel anxious. When you are away from your baby you can ask whoever is caring for them to sing or recite a familiar song or rhyme to reassure them.
